MEFAS provides a specialized platform, builds a professional network, conducts educational events, and publishes research-driven articles to advance foot and ankle care, innovation, and collaboration among medical professionals.
The BOFAS Education Committee has run The Principles course since 2011 across the UK. The aim is to give Trainee Orthopaedic Surgeons a solid grounding in the principles and the decision making in Foot & Ankle Surgery. The course has expanded to India with IOFAS (Indian Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society) and to Africa in partnership with COSECSA (College of Surgeons of Eastern, Central & Southern Africa). There is an emphasis on clinical examination of cases, small group discussions and learning surgical approaches in the cadaver lab. The course is entirely sponsored by the British Society members, and we now train 72 trainees in the UK and 40 in both India & Africa per year. This is the second course we are running in UAE after the success of the first one and the aim is to expand the Foot and Ankle education and training in the Middle East and Gulf area.
